Welcome to the fifth Newsletter of the Trans2Work project. In this newsletter, we would like to inform you about dissemination and development of activities in the project “School to-Work Transition for Higher education students with disabilities in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro” for the period from July to December 2017.

The Project Trans2Work is supported by the European Commission and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ from 15th October 2015 until 14th October 2018.  

 

E-LEARNING SEMINARS

E-Learning seminars are created within project Trans2Work “School-to-Work Transition for Higher education students with disabilities in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro”. The e-learning seminars are created for students with disabilities, environment, university teachers, staff and university established services, career centres, employers and potential networks. The e – Learning informational sessions are aiming to raise awareness of respective groups and present the accessible data base and its use, as well as the web based tool that helps:

  • employers to identify suitable people to fill specific positions and taking into account special requirements needed by employers and
  • SwD to identify their interests and educational needs.

So far, three E – learning seminars are available.

The 1st  E learning seminar contains:

  • short description of the Trans2Work project idea, its main aim, objectives and innovative elements as well as results and outputs
  • the results of the survey that has taken place during the first period of the project – Transition planning for Higher Education (HE) students with disabilities: the opinions of employers, students and employees with disabilities in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro
  • “Where is our position compared to other countries in the EU from the transition standpoint of SwD” – comparation of the current situation in the three partner cou ntries with the situation in EU

The 2nd E learning seminar contains information regarding:

  • Persons with disabilities
    • Introduction to policy plans and rights of persons with disabilities
    • Recognition and understanding of the needs of persons with disabilities in the workplace under various circumstances
  • How to hire persons with disabilities
    • How to hire persons with disabilities: information and legal framework
    • Understanding the needs and demands persons with disabilities on workplace
    • Adapting the work place and flexible working time
    • Employment Agency services

    • Self – determination of students with disabilities

DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES

Dissemination of Project activities organized by the University of East Sarajevo.

 Students were encouraged to share their experience with similar projects involvement and to offer their perspective concerning equal employment possibilities for all graduated students. At the end of the debates, students are asked to leave their contact email addresses for possible future collaboration and were given dissemination material.University of East Sarajevo organized one debate on 12th September 2017 at the Faculty of Medicine UES in Foča and the other debate on 4th of October 2017 at the University Dormitory in Pale. They were both attended by around 30 participants: students and academic staff. Project activities were presented by Biljana Sladoje Bošnjak, project coordinator, Vera Vujević and Ranka Perućica, team members. After the presentation, students and academic staff were invited to provide their inputs and thoughts about the project itself, objectives and its implementation.

 

The round table was organized at the University of East Sarajevo at the premises of the rector’s office on 31st October 2017. It was attended by students with disabilities from different faculties of the University of East Sarajevo, exchange students, Project coordinator, UES mentor and administrative staff in charge. Participant of the round table discuss ed the implementation of the project main goals.

 

University of East Sarajevo participated in organization of workshop for students with disabilities, employers and academic staff, held on 17th of December 2017 in cooperation with PROFIL Management Consulting and the University of Sarajevo. Ranka Perućica, team member, gave a statement for local media services (newspaper, TV station) on behalf of the UES team regarding project implementation specially about special mobility strand.

Dissemination of Project activities organized by the University of Sarajevo

Trans2Work UNSA team has organized an Info Day for students regarding activities within the project with a special emphasis on the SMS – student exchange in the countries of the region. I nfo day for students was held on 19th June 2017 at the Faculty of Philosophy. Participants paid close attention to mentor Merima Zukić’s speech and asked questions about different aspects of student exchange realization and completing the professional practice in the countries of the region. Interested students left their contact information and expressed interest in receiving further information regarding the mentioned exchange activities.

The UNSA Trans2Work team organized a round table which was held on 6th July 2017, in CIS – Center for interdisciplinary study of the University in Sarajevo. The main goal were: Presenting of the Trans2Work and LNSS projects to academic stuff, librarians, students, educational authorities, representatives of non-governmental sectors and journalists; Introducing the needs of persons with disabilities to informational experts in order to create and propose suitable librarian-informational services; Exchanging experiences about informational services arranged for clients with disabilities; informing participants about possibilities of students with disabilities’ mobility with an aim to develop and improve “soft” skills; Showing the importance of the assistive technology in the learning process and participation of students with disability.

The University of Sarajevo’s International Cooperation Office has organized The Eight Scholarship Fair. The fair was held on 19th October 2017 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo. The fair attended 41 exhibitors from 17 countries around the world, including the representatives of 14 Universities from abroad. Trans2Work UNSA team also participated in the fair. This was a great opportunity for the dissemination of activities within the project, in particular the presentation of SMS. The fair was visited by several thousand people.

UNSA team also disseminated Project activities and its importance at web portals and journals.

Dissemination of Project activities organized by PROFIL Management Consulting

PROFIL Management Consulting in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo and the University of East Sarajevo organised the workshop for students with disabilities, employers, academic staff, which was held on 17th of Januar 2018 at the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo. The workshop was a great opportunity for exchange of knowledge, experiences and examples of good practices. It resulted with very important conclusions and recommendations for making further steps for supporting students with disabilities in transition process from HEI to labour market.

Dissemination of Project activities org anized by University of Montenegro

University of Montenegro organized an Info Day, held on 21st June 2017. Beside the team members from the University of Montenegro, Association of Youth with Disabilities of Montenegro, Employment Agency of Montenegro and University of Donja Gorica, other representatives of students with disabilities and participants were also presented. During the Info Day, basic information about the position of students with disabilities in Montenegro was given; there were presented the possibilities for employment of students with disabilities after acquiring higher education; the application of information technologies in improving the connection of students with disabilities and employers, as well as the mobility of students with disabilities within the framework of the Trans2Work project (the emphasis is made on the practice of students at employers’ organizations in Montenegro or other partner countries).

University of Montenegro organized a workshop on 7th December 2017, which is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, in order to present the achieved results in the area of improvement the position of students with disabilities. The workshop was organised at Maritime Faculty. The film about three students with disabilities from Montenegro, done by AYDM, titled Moving the boundaries was also shown.

 

The Maritime Faculty Kotor of the University of Montenegro organized the Workshop with students on 15th November 2017. The workshop was attended by the students, lecturers and associates from the Faculty of Political Sciences. Participants had the opportunity to hear about the project activities, the current position of students with disability in Montenegro, as well as the possibilities for improvement of their status and the provisions of the Law on Higher Education. The presentations were followed by the discussion where the students asked a series of questions related to the project.

Dissemination of Project activities organized by the Association of Youth with Disabilities of Montenegro

AYDM organized workshop on 9th October 2017 to inform employers about benefits they can have if they employ persons with disabilities. Topics on the workshop were: benefits and obstacles in employment of PWDs and educational level of PWDs. Trainer on the workshop was Miroslava-Mima Ivanović, Coordinator of Legal program and Antidiscrimination who informed participants about legislation which provides framework for employment of persons with disabilities and benefits which employers can receive in this process. Employers were given place to share their experience, to express needs and give recommendations for the future improvement.  Participants were given the information about services at Career Centre of UoM and their role in the SMS process. All participants were able to get acknowledged with the web-based tool and received basic instructions how to register by representatives of EAM.

 

AYDM organized workshop on 16th December 2017 to inform students with disabilities about SMS and other programs of mobility and work practice abroad. Students with disabilities got  informed about the opportunities offered by SMS and all its specifics in the whole process – registration on a web based tool, application for a program, living abroad and work practice. In the practical part, students were given all information about application process, support to fill application form and there was opened a platform for experience sharing with students who participated in similar programs. Nine SwD participated in this event and as result, 4 of them applied for SMS.

 

Dissemination of Project activities organized by University of Novi Sad

Within the activities aimed at improving the conditions for studying and employability of students with disabilities at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, there was a working meeting dedicated to the students with disabilities. The event was held on 27th December 2017.  At the meeting, Project was presented and the opportunities for using the web platform for the employment of highly educated persons with disabilities. All participants at the working meeting are invited to register on the web platform and apply for the internship implemented within the Tran2Work Project. Participants of the meeting had the opportunity to take an active part in the work during the entire meeting. 13 persons with disabilities in total attended the meeting, as well as 2 personal assistants and 5 representatives of the University of Novi Sad and the Trans2Work Project.

 

Dissemination of Project activities organized by the National Employment Service of the Republic of Serbia

National Employment Service of the Republic of Serbia (NES) has organized workshop with employers on 20th October 2017. The goal of the workshop was to present the activities and results of the project, as well as to inform employers about the benefits of employing PwD and to raise their awareness about this topic.  Workshop for employers was held within the Job fair organized by NES Branch Office Mladenovac. The main focus of the presentation of the Trans2Work project was the Web Platform. Participants were able to learn about the web-based tool, and received the instructions on how to register including brief information about the questionnaire for employers. NES representatives informed participants about legislation which provides framework for employment of persons with disabilities and the benefits which employers can receive in this process.

NES organized a job fair for persons with disabilities, the first of this kind in last eight years, and it was held on 23rd November 2017 in the premises of the Belgrade Municipality of Vračar. There were 19 employers offering 115 vacancies. Project “Trans2Work” was presented by NES representatives to all participants (employers). The main focus was on the students’ exchange program, which pointed out the development of the web-based tool, and all employers were invited to register. Also, all attending employers provided their contact information to be entered into an electronic index.
