Round table in the framework of the EU project “School-to-Work Transition for Higher education students with disabilities in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro” was held on Tuesday, May 10th 2016 in the premises of the University of Sarajevo. The round table was opened by the welcome speech of Prof. Faruk Mekić, Vice Rector of the University of Sarajevo and prof. dr. Lejla Kafedžić, project coordinator for the University of Sarajevo.
The “School-to-Work Transition for Higher education students with disabilities in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro” was presented by Dr. Lejla Hodžić, a member of the project team, and the experiences from Finland were presented by Prof. Matti Kourelatti and dr. Erja Kautto-Knape.
The round table was organized with the aim of presenting the project to the academic staff, students, employers and representatives of non-governmental sector, exchange of experiences and opinions about the needs and possibilities of linking higher education and the labor market, and in order to identify proposals for actions and measures within WP3.
The moderator of the meeting was Prof. Snježana Šušnjara, a member of the project team. In addition to academic staff and students, the round table was attended by representatives of employers of BH Telecom, the Communications Regulatory Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Program of Support to Marginalized Groups, and representatives of BiH partners: representatives of the University of East Sarajevo and “Profile MC” d.o.o. Participants had an active role in the round table during a panel discussion where several conclusions were adopted:
- To include students with disabilities in the Project as active participants and implementers of project activities;
- Arrange a meeting with employers and students with disabilities in order to discuss how employers see people with disabilities, what are their expectations, show students with disabilities to employers as competent potential employees, and the like;
- To meet with representatives of companies that employ people with disabilities and their employees with disabilities;- Actively lobbying with employers in order to have visibility and sustainability of the Project in the future;
- Encounters with students with disabilities in order to increase their use of and openness to the resources of the University;
- Promotion of the Office for support to students with special needs;
- Directly talk to legislators with the aim of suggesting specific and necessary legislation changes.
